GRADY MAN ANNOUNCES BID FOR CONGRESSIONAL SEAT

CAIRO - A Grady County man has entered the race for the Second District of U.S. Congress seat held by Stanford Bishop, D-Columbus.

Ed Komarek announced intentions to run what he called a low-budget campaign focused on issues against Bishop.

If elected, Komarek, a founder of the Citizens Oversight Group in Grady County, plans to tackle county land use regulations. "One of the problems we have been experiencing is excessive and irresponsible land use regulations that are handed down to the counties through the Regional Development Center," Komarek said.

Komarek said he also intends to talk to many farmers about issues affecting them. Farmers, he said, are being squeezed by many corporations and by international trade agreements such as the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Komarek said NAFTA forced farmers to compete unfairly against low labor costs in other countries.

The candidate also is a co-founder with Mike Jamieson of Operation right To Know, a world wide UFO political activist group. The group, Komarek said, fights to end 50 years of government cover-up of UFOs.

"Members of Congress have been neglecting their oversight duties regarding UFOs," Komarek said. "If members of Congress like Sanford Bishop don't have the backbone to dig out the truth about the UFO cover-up becaus e of the potential ridicule surrounding the subject, then Mike and I will get into Congress and do it ourselves.
